A MEDITATION ON THE TWENTY-THIRD PSALM

"Lord, you are:
A companion to my spirit-
Father and Shepherd of a life;
Perplexing at times for me.
Designing a purpose for me.

Fashioned in you,
I am in need of nothing
But the riches coming from
The depths of your love.

Lord, you are my Shepherd.
May your hands calm my rough waters
When I am tossed by swift currents
And
Fleeting wind.

May my soul be restored,
Healed,
Reconciled with body,
Delighting in its abode.
May the focus of my eyes stay fixed
Upon images of your face in all of
Creation.

Lord, you are my shepherd.
Anoint my head with your oil;
Bathe me with the sweet perfume
Of your Word.
Penetrate my spirit with your truths,
That I may reflect such
To a hungry world.

Fill my cup overflowing
With your presence,
That my heart may sing in jubilation
Songs of your unceasing love.

Lord, you are my Shepherd,
The bosom of your temple
Will be my dwelling place forever.
Lord, my Shepherd,
Blest am I, your sheep!"

Follow through-quickly

Make it clear that you mean what you say, and don't make threats-or promises-you won't keep. If you tell your 2-4 year-old, "You need to drink some milk at dinnertime," don't waffle five minutes later and let her have juice instead. If you warn her she'll have a time-out if she hits her brother, give her that time-out when the blow comes. Make sure your spouse or partner shares your rules and respects them as well, so that neither of you undermines the other.

In addition, make your follow-through speedy. You would never expect to have to shout "Don't run across the street!" five times before your child heeded you. Similarly, don't fall into the trap of repeating less urgent instructions, such as "Set your cup on the table," over and over again before expecting your child to comply. Gently guide your child's hand to place the cup on the table so she knows exactly what you want her to do..

Single Servings

Keep portable snacks handy-and hold your food budget down-by buying items in bulk and making yur own single-serve bags. Check portion sizes on nutrition labels of cereal, baked crackers, or nuts, and fill zipper bags with one serving each. Then, your youngster can grab a nutritious snack quickly.
